PM Warns Opposition Official for Slander

KANDAL: Prime Minister Hun Sen sent a warning to opposition party official, Sar Longdeth, who criticized the organization of this year’s SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games.

Speaking at a meeting with more than 16,000 workers in Kandal province on June 10, the PM said that he knew everything about a meeting organized by Sar Longdeth the previous night, during which he criticized the government’s policy of hosting the Games free-of-charge, especially when it came to canceling room and board fees for athletes and not charging for tickets-an unprecedented move for a SEA Games host. Cambodia spent over $110 million dollars on the SEA Games alone, with an additional $30-40 million on the Para Games.

Prime Minister Hun Sun said, "Sar Longdeth, you have to remember, nephew: Hun Sen knows everything about last night when you had the meeting with the commune council".

He also warned that there would be legal action against Sar Longdeth as he was involved with convicted opposition leader Sam Rainsy.

"The police were sent to protect Sar Longdeth, I am afraid someone will shoot him to death and blame it on Hun Sen," he said.

He also warned other individuals associated with Sam Rainsy as well.
